Our “Fruit Square” project was selected under Zeleni Pojas – Environmental Protection and Nature Conservation Contest 2018 organized by Ina (www.ina.hr/zelenipojas). As part of the project, we will set up a lawn and plant 15 seedlings of figs. Fruits seedlings will be planted along the edge of the Fruit Square. Stone table and two benches will be set up in the central part, there will be an info board with trash cans and a solar bicycle rack. Information board will contain information of INA’s Zeleni Pojas contest and information on cherry and figs seedlings that are local in the area. In such manner we will raise awareness to protect and maintain a sustainable environment.
The Fruit Square will voluntarily be maintained by local residents (the target group is the younger population), and the fruits will be shared equally by all residents on a world-known basis, “food sharing and shared economy”. This model will try to get closer to the local population as one of the possible ways of sustainable rural development. Projectt will start in October 2018 will be completed by January 2019. The President of LAG “Bura” Leonardo Rončević said of the start of the project: “The project will implement an innovative idea of “Fruit Square” in the area of Poljica in Vrsi Municipality. Poljica is one of the green oasis of our LAG. We would like to thank INA d.d. for recognizing the potential of our project and our rural area. “
